Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Grating

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) grating is a plate-shaped composite material with a porous structure, made of glass fiber as reinforcement and unsaturated polyester resin as matrix, manufactured through molding or pultrusion processes. Its core characteristics include corrosion resistance, lightweight and high strength, flame retardancy, and insulation, making it widely used in industry, construction, and environmental protection.

Products Description

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) grating is a plate-shaped composite material with a porous structure, made of glass fiber as reinforcement and unsaturated polyester resin as matrix, manufactured through molding or pultrusion processes. Its core characteristics include corrosion resistance, lightweight and high strength, flame retardancy, and insulation, making it widely used in industry, construction, and environmental protection.

Our Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) grating is manufactured using premium-grade E-glass fiber and thermosetting resin matrices through molded or pultrusion processes. Designed for industrial platforms, walkways, and trench covers, our grating systems comply with international standards including ASTM E84, BS 476 Part 7, EN 13706, and ISO 9001:2015 quality management.

Unlike steel grating that requires constant maintenance in corrosive environments, FRP grating provides permanent corrosion resistance with superior strength-to-weight ratio. The non-conductive, non-sparking properties make it ideal for electrical and hazardous areas.Get a custom quote today!

I. Common Types

Standard Type: 25×38mm, 30×38mm, etc., single-layer structure

Microporous Type: Double-layer structure (pore size 12×12mm/38×38mm), preventing small parts from falling, used in trenches, semiconductor workshops

Conductive Type: With added antistatic agents, used in explosion-proof areas such as military factories and chemical fiber plants.

Anti-slip Covers: Sand-coated or patterned surface, used for ramps, manhole covers

II. Main Application Scenarios

1. Industrial Sector

Corrosive Environments: Chemical plant operating platforms, electroplating workshop trench covers, offshore oil platforms

Energy Industry: Photovoltaic walkway gratings, sewage treatment filter screens.

2. Civil and Infrastructure Use

Public Facilities: Bridge walkways, stair treads, drainage ditch covers.

Protective Engineering: Composite bedding layer for rockfall protection tunnels, reducing impact stress by over 65%.

3. Special Applications

Animal Husbandry: Spoiler panels for pigeon lofts, corrosion-resistant and keeps the loft dry.

Safety Fencing: Equipment railings, tank top railings, insulating and non-magnetic.

FAQ

Q: How do I select the right thickness for my application?

A: Thickness depends on span and load. For pedestrian walkways with 36" span, 1" or 1.5" molded grating is typical. For 48" spans or maintenance traffic, use 1.5" or 2". For vehicle traffic, minimum 1.5" HLC or 2" standard. Use our load calculator or submit your span and load requirements for engineering recommendation.

Q: Can FRP grating support forklift traffic?

A: Yes, with proper design. Standard grating supports light forklift traffic at short spans. For heavy forklift (5,000+ lbs) or H-20 highway loading, specify our High Load Capacity (HLC) grating in 1.5" molded or 2"+ pultruded profiles with reduced support spacing.

Q: What about thermal expansion in outdoor installations?

A: FRP has a thermal expansion coefficient of 1.0-1.5 × 10⁻⁵ in/in/°F (similar to steel). For panels over 10ft in length, allow 1/4" gap at ends. Use expansion clips (M-clips with slotted holes) to accommodate movement. Our engineering team provides thermal expansion calculations for large installations.

Q: Is FRP grating electrically conductive?

A: No, FRP is non-conductive and provides electrical insulation. This is a major advantage in substations, switchyards, and around electrical equipment. For static dissipation in explosive atmospheres, we offer conductive grating with carbon surface veil.

Q: How does UV exposure affect outdoor performance?

A: UV can cause surface chalking and color fading over time, but does not affect structural integrity. We add UV inhibitors to all outdoor grades. Expect 15-20% strength retention loss over 20 years in extreme UV. Dark colors (gray, black) show less fading than yellow or orange.

Q: What is the lead time for custom panels?

A: Stock sizes (3'×10', 4'×8') ship in 1-2 weeks. Custom fabricated panels (cut-to-size, penetrations) require 3-4 weeks. Large projects (10,000+ ft²) schedule 6-8 weeks. Emergency expedite available for critical shutdowns.

Q: Do you provide installation supervision?

A: Yes. We offer installation training for contractor crews and can provide on-site supervision for complex projects. Installation manuals and video guides provided with every order. Technical hotline support during installation.
