1. Project Overview


Project Name: Huaneng Gansu Company Zhengning 2x1000 MW Peak-Shaving Coal-Fired Power Project

Project Owner: Huaneng Group

Project Location: Zhengning County, Qingyang City, Gansu Province

Core equipment: DN4500*20000 FRP (fiberglass reinforced plastic) thickening tower ( tower #1 and tower # 2 )

Services include: equipment design, manufacturing, transportation, installation, and commissioning.

Contractor: Hebei Weitong Fiberglass Co., Ltd.

Huaneng Zhengning Power Plant is a key power source in the Longdong Energy Base, and its environmental protection facilities are constructed to high standards and with stringent requirements. This phase of the zero-discharge desulfurization wastewater project aims to achieve the environmental goal of no wastewater discharge from the power plant, placing extreme demands on the reliability and stability of core equipment. Hebei Weitong Fiberglass Co., Ltd., leveraging its extensive experience and excellent reputation in the power industry, successfully undertook the construction of a key piece of equipment in this project—the No. 2 concentration tower—marking another instance of Weitong products serving the environmental protection construction of a major national energy base.


2. Core Challenges and Technological Requirements


Located in Northwest China, and being a core environmental protection project for a large power plant, this project presents unique challenges:


High environmental adaptability requirements: Gansu has large temperature differences between day and night and frequent sandstorms, requiring equipment materials to not only be corrosion resistant, but also have excellent resistance to ultraviolet aging and thermal expansion and contraction.

Large-scale equipment and stability: The tower with a diameter of 4.5 meters and a height of 20 meters is a large piece of equipment. Under full liquid conditions, its self-weight and liquid weight are huge, which poses a severe test to the structural design of the tower, the foundation connection and the overall rigidity.

Extremely high reliability requirements: As towers #1 and # 2 in the series of projects , their operational stability is directly related to the safe and economical operation of the power plant during long-term, full-load operation, requiring the equipment to have "zero failures" and a long service life.

Strict schedule and quality requirements: The power plant project has a tight construction period, requiring equipment to be delivered on time or even ahead of schedule, and the quality must be excellent from the start, eliminating any defects.


3. Hebei Weitong Solutions


In response to the specific needs of the Zhengning project, Hebei Weitong developed a specialized technical solution:


Dual protection against weathering and corrosion:


The inner lining is made of bisphenol A type vinyl ester resin , which has top-level high temperature resistance and resistance to corrosion from mixed chemicals, effectively resisting the erosion of chloride ions and sulfate ions in desulfurization wastewater.


UV absorbers are added to the structural layer resin, and a special weather-resistant gel coat is applied to the outer surface to form double protection, effectively coping with the strong ultraviolet radiation and wind and sand erosion in Northwest China, preventing resin yellowing and performance degradation.


Enhanced structural design:


Computer-aided winding simulation technology is used to analyze the stress on the tower body. Based on the standard design, local thickening and reinforcement designs are carried out on stress concentration areas such as the tower skirt, the opening pipe area and the tower top to ensure the absolute safety of the equipment under wind load, seismic load and operating load.


 The winding pattern and angle give the equipment high axial strength, as well as excellent circumferential stiffness and resistance to deformation.


Lean Manufacturing and Process Control:

We strictly implement the relevant standards of Huaneng Group and the state, and formulate internal quality control points that are higher than industry standards.

The entire process is digitally managed, and key process parameters such as winding time, tension, and temperature are monitored and recorded in real time to ensure production traceability and guarantee that the products from Tower No. 2 have the same excellent quality as those from Tower No. 1.


Efficient logistics and on-site organization:

For long-distance transportation, a dedicated and sturdy transport support was designed to ensure that the equipment arrives safely in sections at the Northwest project site.

A highly skilled installation team was dispatched to work closely with the general contractor, overcoming difficulties such as overlapping on-site operations, and efficiently and effectively completed the hoisting, assembly, and installation tasks, ensuring the overall project schedule.


4. Project Results and Value


Successfully delivered and put into operation: The DN4500 thickening towers #1 and #2 have been successfully installed and put into operation. The equipment is running smoothly with excellent parameters, fully meeting the design requirements and providing a reliable guarantee for Zhengning Power Plant to achieve zero wastewater discharge.
