Huaneng Shidongkou Power Plant, a key power source for the East China Power Grid, actively responds to national environmental protection policies and is committed to building a green, low-carbon, and efficient modern coal-fired power plant. Its zero-discharge desulfurization wastewater project is a crucial step in achieving comprehensive wastewater utilization and eliminating environmental pollution. In this project, Hebei Weitong Fiberglass Co., Ltd., leveraging its strong technical capabilities and extensive project experience, successfully manufactured the core equipment of the system—the ultra-large-scale fiberglass thickening tower.
II. Core Challenges and Technological Requirements
Desulfurization wastewater has a complex composition, containing high concentrations of chloride ions, sulfate ions, heavy metals, and suspended solids, and is characterized by strong corrosivity and a tendency to scale. Given the large-capacity processing requirements of the Shidongkou project, extremely high demands are placed on the core thickening tower equipment:
Stability of ultra-large structure: The equipment has a diameter of 6.3 meters and a total height of over 18 meters. It is an ultra-large composite material equipment, and its structural design, molding, hoisting, transportation and installation are extremely difficult.
Excellent corrosion resistance: It must be able to withstand the alternating corrosion of various high-concentration acid, alkali and salt media in desulfurization wastewater for a long time, ensuring a service life of more than 20 years for the equipment.
High-precision manufacturing requirements: The installation and docking requirements of tower internals (such as water distribution devices, packing supports, demisters, etc.) are extremely high to ensure uniform water flow distribution and stable mass transfer efficiency, which is the basis for achieving the "zero emission" process target.
Strict environmental and safety standards: The equipment must be completely sealed and leak-free to meet the stringent requirements of power plant safety production and environmental emissions.

Advanced finite element analysis (FEA) software is used to perform mechanical simulation calculations on the tower structure, optimize the winding profile and wall thickness distribution, and ensure the absolute safety of the equipment under full load operation, wind load, and seismic load.
To address the challenges of ultra-large diameter, a segmented modular design was adopted, which not only ensured manufacturing precision but also solved the problems of transportation and on-site assembly.
Advanced Materials and Processes:
Vinyl ester resin is used as the inner lining and main structural material. This material has excellent high temperature resistance, acid and alkali corrosion resistance and impermeability, which far exceeds traditional materials such as PP and stainless steel.
The main winding layer uses alkali-free glass fiber and a high-performance resin system. It is precisely wound by a computer-controlled winding machine to ensure uniform fiber tension and accurate resin content, giving the tower body extremely high mechanical strength and rigidity.
Precision manufacturing and quality control:
The products are manufactured in a cleanroom with constant temperature and humidity, and the entire process strictly adheres to the ISO9001 quality management system.
Each layer of resin coating and each layer of fiber winding undergoes rigorous inspection, and the finished product is subjected to 100% non-destructive testing to ensure that there are no bubbles, no delamination, and no defects.
Professional installation and teamwork:
An experienced professional installation team was dispatched to the site to work closely with the owner and general contractor, overcoming difficulties such as narrow space and high-altitude operations.
High-precision instruments were used for measurement and positioning, ensuring the accurate docking of the segmented tower body and the correct installation of the tower internals, thus successfully completing the installation task.
